The Corona Whale

The Corona Whale

God cares when you are hurting, stressed, riddled with anxiety and fear,

Jonah 1:15,17
15 Then they picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea, and the sea stopped its raging. 17 Now the LORD had appointed a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the fish three days and three nights.

  • I Can’t Believe This Is Happening
    • Do I Have Your Attention?
    • It Is Amazing What God Has To Do To Get Our Attention
      • God Is Using A Storm To Write A Story
      • God Has A Way Of Redirecting Our Rebellion
  • God Appointed A Huge Fish
    • There Is No Greater Giver Of Perspective Than Pain

Jonah 2:1
Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from inside the fish:

  • He Prayed Inside The Pain
    • Pain Is An Unexpected Uncomfortable Vehicle
    • His whole world ended as he knew it inside the fish
      • He lost his mobility/freedom
      • He lost light/vision/ability to see
      • It was unexpected, inconvenient and he was ill equipped because no one had ever experienced this before or since
    • Can Anyone Relate To Jonah?
      • We did not cause this pain but the principle remains, we are in it and it is taking us somewhere.

Jonah 2:2
I called to the LORD in my distress,
and He answered me.
I cried out for help in the belly of Sheol;
You heard my voice.

  • The God Of All Comfort
    • “I called and HE answered”
    • “I cried and HE heard”
      • Even when we rebel
      • Even when we sin
      • God cares when you are hurting, stressed, riddled with anxiety and fear
      • God does not intend for you to dwell there, that may be moment on the journey but it is not the destination

Jonah 2:3-6
3 You threw me into the depths,
into the heart of the seas,
and the current overcame me.
All Your breakers and Your billows swept over me.
4 But I said: I have been banished
from Your sight,
yet I will look once more
toward Your holy temple.
5 The waters engulfed me up to the neck;
the watery depths overcame me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.
6 I sank to the foundations of the mountains;
the earth with its prison bars closed behind me forever!
But You raised my life from the Pit, LORD my God!

  • Prayer Will Return You To The Right Path
    • “Yet, I will look once more”
      • Maybe our nation, our state and our city need to look once more
      • Maybe the skeptic needs to look once more
      • Maybe the believer that has walked away needs to look once more
      • Maybe those suffocating in fear need to look once more
    • “I sank to the bottom…But YOU raised my life from the Pit”
      • Rock bottom to raised to life again
      • Only God can do that
      • You might say, “I can’t believe this happening”
      • Pain produced a yearning in Jonah to reflect, repent and return
      • Perhaps God can raise those who feel like they are sinking.
