Participate In The Process

Your investment causes life change. And when we experience life change, we all win.

John 6:5-15
5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” 8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”

  • Two practical ways that their big ideas were confined to human logic
    • Buy our way out (but we don’t have enough)
    • Use what we have without God’s blessing (but we know we don’t have enough)
  • We Often See What We Have As The Limitation Of How Much We Can Help
    • We begin to put God in the box of what I think is possible
    • They had a problem to solve!
      • Philip’s biggest idea couldn’t conceive what was possible with God’s blessing
      • Shift perspective from our problem to what’s possible with God’s blessing
  • It is a measure of how GOD we are willing to let him be
    • If God asks you to do something, it is never about how much you have – it is what he can do with it
    • He will never ask you to solve a problem without giving you the provision
    • In this story, and in our own lives, it’s less about the provision, & more about the Provider

John 6:10-13
10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. 12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

  • This story is so critical to understanding investment
    • God is in the business of life change & he allows us to participate in his process with our investment
      • When we focus on the provider over the provision, we get to experience life change first hand
    • When we participate in God’s process of life change, our investment becomes an act of worship
      • As we’ve seen with investment – it’s contagious
  • Our Worship Becomes Their Way
    • Our worship leads to marriages being saved, families being restored…
    • Our worship leads people surrendering to serving others in the church
  • Our worship leads to a way for teenagers to experience life change. Just this week we saw some incredible things:
    • Students who came from hard home environments found a family in Christ
    • Students who knew nothing about Jesus or church got saved & began leading in their small groups & empowering other students towards a decision for Christ
    • Students who were bound by drug & alcohol abuse began their journey to freedom
  • Because of your worship – your investment… life change happened
    • 270 people joined us this year (40 amazing leaders)
    • Out of 230 students, 90% of our students experienced a life changing moment this week
    • 47 students committed themselves to our church, to leadership, or to some needed life change
    • 87 students rededicated their lives to Jesus
    • 75 students accepted Jesus for the first time
