What does the Bible say about judging others?
I. What Is The Goal Of Judging?
Matthew 7:1-5 (ESV)
1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
II. Do Not Judge Hypocritically – We should want to help the hurting
John 7:24 (ESV)
24 Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”
III. Do Not Judge Superficially – We should care more about
Proverbs 18:13 (ESV)
13 If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.
IV. Do Not Judge Unnecessarily – Inside Vs Outside — Protect the sheep
1 Corinthians 5:12 (ESV)
12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13 God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”
V. The Goal Within Is To Gain The Fallen
Galatians 6:1a (ESV)
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness.
