41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two.

  • $20 – Lunch Money
    • Love Is Doing More Than Is Required
    • It Is An Unreasonable Love
    • It Is A Reckless Love that leaves the 99
      • God’s Love Is So Unreasonable
      • The extra might be the thing they both needed and will remember most
      • Gomer, he bought her back
        • He didn’t have to
        • No one would have judged him wrong for standing by and letting her get what she deserved
        • Is Your Love Transactional Or Transformational?
          • I give because I get
          • I give because I expect
          • I give because I feel I owe
        • Transformational Love Freely Given Without Expectation Because That Is The Way God Loved Us
        • He rescues us even when we are unfaithful
    • GM has been given $100,000s from organizations
    • GM has been given checks for $10,000s from individuals
    • I appreciate them all, but just as significant is this $20, because it was unexpected, unnecessary, it was humbling and it is exactly the extra that Jesus taught us about!

John 6:3-13
3 Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. 4 The Jewish Passover Festival was near. 5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” 8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. 12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

  • The Question Is The Opportunity
    • Vs 5 “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?”
    • Where
      • Where can we get limitless provision in this limited place
      • Where can we find such a blessing in the middle of barren place
      • Where Phillip?
    • Where shall we buy
      • “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”
      • 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
      • What we have isn’t even close to what we need!
    • Counting The Wrong Cost
      • We replace aiming at ministry with aiming at accounting and everything ends amiss
      • We are calculating the odds and it is costing us opportunities
      • Our equation lacks the variables of vision and the blessing of Jesus
      • God’s question positions us beyond what we possess in resources and beyond what we can reasonably pay for
    • For These People To Eat
      • The needs of the hurting and seeking are always the objective of the opportunity
      • We bring him glory by believing for others
      • We fulfill the mission of the church by serving them and loving them unreasonably
  • “He Already Knew What He Wanted To Do”
    • He Wanted Phillip To Believe He Could
    • He Wanted Phillip To Have A Greater Vision For What Was Possible
    • He Wanted Phillip To Trust God With The Supply For What He Could Not Buy
    • Application
      • We are holding something
      • The need made known is greater than our physical resources
      • People need what we have
      • Letting go feels like losing
  • They Forgot About The Blessing
    • “When we let it go, Jesus blesses and everyone eats!”
      • Story of The Stinglys, Lunch Money, McDonalds ask of a woman from Iowa, Single mom of 3 kids. Josh gave his away.
      • The extra wasn’t even for us… it was trying to get through us
      • If Jesus would bless your situation today, it would change
