If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit. John 15:5

Men's Retreat 2008: Brotherhood
God uses the story of Gideon to teach how His glory can be exhibited through a gathering of men. This glory is amplified by the circumstances of that day. God instructed Gideon to cull his army from 32,000 to 300. Then, when it was time to attack...the Lord told Gideon that the soldiers would be "armed" with trumpets, torches and clay pots.
God had a crazy plan for Gideon and his men. And, it took a good share of affirmation for Gideon to accept the calling. What Gideon learned, was that the victory had already been won! Gideon simply had to obey God's instruction, and claim the reward. God had a calling for Gideon...what is He calling you to? How much affirmation will you need?
Gideon was not alone. He had his 300. He also had his friend and servant, Purah. At retreat, we learned that together; we can use and multiply our strengths...and cancel out our weaknesses. God did not intend for us to fight, or live life alone. God can do crazy, awesome, amazing things when a group of Christians are faithfully committed and serving Him. We can encourage, challenge and share burdens.
This is how Paul described the church...as a body. That's what we are: a body, a BROTHERHOOD. It is up to us to carry the fire and passion from this weekend. It is up to us to have the courage to accept God's call, and the humility to know that it's better than our plan.

Super Bowl Party
Are you ready for some football?
The largest sporting event of the entire year is upon us. It's the Super Bowl! As you have heard for a couple of weeks, Genesis Metro Church and the Men's Ministry are hosting a Super Bowl party. The event details can be found on the Men's Ministry page on from the website: www.genesismetro.com . Most importantly, you should know that this is for men (and high school guys) only! So there will be no sewing circle talk, or talk about the View, or Dr. Phil.... come on people! It's guys watching football, even if the Cowboys aren't in the Super Bowl.
A few of the guys have offered to cook burgers and brats on the grill....so bring $5 to chip in. I will pick up the rest of the snack food. You just need to bring your soft drink of choice.
What is a disciple?
A disciple is someone who has accepted Christ, and is following after Him. Accepted Him as Savior and Lord. Let's think about that for a moment...
Savior: Have you accepted that God so loved you, that he sent His son to die for your sins? All of your sins. Past, present, and future. Absolutely all of them. If so, you have become a Christian. This is the beginning of the journey.
Lord: Have you asked and accepted Jesus as your Lord? I mean really submitted your life to His will. Are you following after Him? Are you seeking what He has for your life? This is discipleship. This is a life-long obedient relationship with Christ. Throughout; you can learn what God has created you for, and what your calling is.
This could be the call of your life. Will you answer the call? Can you surrender? Can you let go of the steering wheel, and have faith... not just faith in your salvation, but complete faith in what God has in store for you?
I have struggled with this concept. During my recent MasterLife study, I came across a passage that gave me new understanding.
Romans 8:16-17 states; "The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs - heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory."
We are God's children; therefore, He is our Father. I began to think of God as my Father. Having kids, this really struck me. I know how I feel about my children. I know what I want for my children. Is that how He feels about me?... with love, grace, forgiveness, wanting growth, needing to correct, wanting to provide blessings. Every parent wants their children to obey, because they know what's best for their child. That's God! He wants us to obey! He wants us to love Him. He wants us to seek after Him.
Answer the call. God has called us, to save us and to do His will. Let Him lead you, so you can lead your life and your family.
Let go of the wheel, let God take you there... and bring your family and brothers with you.
We are all on the same journey. Maybe you've momentarily stalled, maybe you are in a different place, maybe you have a different past, maybe you have different voices... He wants us all to go in the same direction. To Him.
I have been listening to Switchfoot, "This is your life". During the chorus, it asks, "are you who you want to be?" Ask yourself that question. I promise you, if you seek after Him... if you submit... if you deny yourself, and pick up your cross daily... you will be who you want to be. You will be who He wants you to be.
Are you strong enough to let go? ...to say yes to your Lord? If you do, you will experience excitement, joy, security, and God's plan.
Do you know Him?
This is a very exciting time for us. We just had the first 15 (or so) men complete a six month discipleship program. Our church is growing. Our ministries are developing. Our families are blessed. And our lives are fruitful. It is such a blessing to be right here, right now!!! This time of year has never meant more to me, than it does this year. To better understand that gift that was given in Christ.
From th video clip from last Sunday...I want to ask everyone that I encounter, "do you know Him?"
My daughters and I were driving around, buying Christmas gifts for my wife, Jessica, tonight. We were singing "I am Free", and I asked them if they knew why we were free.... and Elizabeth answers immediately, "because Jesus came!" It took me 35 years to figure out what my five year old so clearly understands. AMEN!
Stay tuned for many things to come: a new MasterLife semester, every-other-month Men's events, etc.... There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved, get connected, be discipled, bear fruit, and pick up our Crosses.
